For those of you who have noticed that we are advertising our lathes and have wondered why, then the answer is, they are going to be replaced in the next couple of months. The club has been awarded £6,300 from Awards for All(Scotland), to support our £8,000 club equipment upgrade programme. The award will allow us to replace the lathes (most of which are at least 10 years old), some of the lathe accessories, the marquee will be replaced with a similar sized easier to erect Gazebo, and the heavy tables will be replaced with lightweight tables. Part of the conditions for the lottery grant award, was that we could not announce it (the award) before the 15th November. I am sure you will agree that this is indeed good news, as it provides us with modern speed controlled lathes and a much needed facelift to our facilities to show our products at events like Glamis and the Dundee Flower and Food show.
Taywood woodturning club was formed in 1998 and is a branch of the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain. Amongst other aims, our constitution seeks to foster a greater awareness and to promote the art of Woodturning. We as a club hold public demonstrations and exhibitions. Our present membership is now over 60 but unfortunately we are not insured for members below the age of 15.
The number of persons attending our monthly meetings at Monifeith which is close to Dundee averages 35. We meet usually on the first Saturday of the month at 12.00pm until roughly 4.00pm. We usually have "Professional Demonstrators" or "Hands On" Days where club members demonstrate and try to assist new members with their woodturning skills. Have a look at our Future Events page for news.
